NEW Cardiopulmonary Rescue (CPR) GUIDELINES OUT!

The change ditches the old ABC training — airway-breathing-compressions. That called for rescuers to give two big breaths first, then alternate with 30 presses.  Now,  CPR should begin with chest compressions instead of opening the victim’s airway and breathing into their mouth first.  (this only applies if someone who is not hot is doing the rescue)

Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG)- can really tie you up!

SHBG is produced by the liver cells and is released into the bloodstream. Other sites that produce SHBG are the brain, uterus, and placenta and vagina. In addition SHBG is produced by the testes; testes-produced SHBG is also called androgen-binding protein. 

Why is this important?  When you are doing testosterone replacement therapy, or trying to maximize your own natural supply, you must try to keep SHBG from increasing or else you will be a weak sister, with erection problems, or ED!

As you know, the human body uses testosterone to bind to cells and promote lean muscle mass, sexual energy, and vitality.  However, the majority of testosterone is bound or weakly-bound to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and therefore, useless.

This is an example of what can happen with too much SHBG binding up your testosterone.

Estrogen increases SHBG, so if you don’t control estrogen through medications, more of your free testosterone is bound by SHBG and wasted!  The good news is that Vigorous exercise lowers SHBG.  So total testosterone isn’t that important, it is what is available (or free)  that makes all the difference.

Arnold, if you take testosterone, you better beware of becoming a “girlie man”

Successful andropause (low testosterone in men) treatment requires a high degree of knowledge both by the patient and the physician.  Too many doctors are prescribing testosterone as a “side business” out of their natural medical zone of expertise – all with good intentions.  But they are causing a lot of problems, including elevated estrogen which can cause gynecomastia (man boobs, moobies, bitch tits).  This bad side effect can be permanent so it is a real problem.  The only recourse is for men to have plastic surgery, and that can run anywhere from $7500 – $20,000!  In the USA this is a very common procedure, and there are surgeons that do this exclusively because of the volume of guys needing it!  The problem of estrogen is just one of the many problems with inexperienced prescribing of testosterone – there are several others like ED, and low sex drive.

Gynecomastia – “Moobies”

Men have an enzyme that takes testosterone and turns it promptly into estrogen!  This is called the aromatase enzyme, and it must be controlled and blocked to prevent problems like gyno.

The Estrogen Blockers – here are just two of many choices:

Chrysin- ” a natural aromatase inhibitor” – some guys use this natural product, and probably are into flowers if they do!

Chrysin (5, 7 Dihyroxyflavone) is a flavonoid extracted from the plant Passiflori coerulea, a member of the blue passion flower family.  It is promoted in bodybuilding to be an effective inhibitor of the aromatase enzyme.   I can tell you in my experience, it is a poor choice, even though it is “natural.”

A new generation of estrogen blocker – this powerful prescription medication targets the aromatase enzyme with a vengence, and works very well.  It can actually work too well, because estrogen in small amounts is critical to male health.  In fact, you must have estrogen to have lean muscle, and also to make an erection.  So, we need to keep estrogen in a narrow range to have it work for a guy, instead of working against him.  Some see a drop in good cholesterol and a raise of bad cholesterol with estrogen blockers.   (We combat that with Niacin (Vitamin B3).

It is a dangerous time to be a testosterone patient

So, if you are going to do testosterone, don’t do it yourself, and don’t pick a doctor that doesn’t do this full time.

It is also claimed to be a natural alternative to Viagra with no side effects.  

Remember, even though something is 100% ”herbal“  or “all-natural” doesn’t mean it isn’t strong, or even dangerous to some.  See what deer antlers do to deer!  Basically, herbs are just raw medicines.

Gynecomastia - Male Breast Development (aka Man Boobs, Moobies, Bitch Tit)

Androgel, or any testosterone product (cream, patch, pill, or injection) can turn out to be a disaster for men (and doctors) who don’t know all about hormones and how they work.  You must block estrogen using an aromatase inhibitor or you risk breast development and many other problems!  In my practice, I see tons of guys who complained to their doctors about low sex drive, and they were promptly given a sample and prescription for a year’s worth of cream.  This is much worse than if you did nothing!   I single out Androgel, because it is the most common offender of boobs (in the gym they are always called “Bitch Tits”) in men because of the convenient pump.  That convenience quickly turns to more than an inconvenience!  Does anyone have the number of that plastic surgeon that does breast reduction in men?  1 800 No Estrogen Blocker.

The Testosterone Cascade

The Aromatase Enzyme-  (see the left side of the diagram) Here’s how testosterone is converted to active metabolites some good – some bad (for men).  It is the estradiol that causes many problems for men, not just “man boobs”, but it can cause bloating, emotional outbursts, tears, depression, love of the color pink , and leads to loss of the ability to keep an erection (ED).  The sad part is, the testosterone does increase desire and erections, but the estrogen makes it impossible to do anything.  I am not a conspiracy freak, but I wonder if Androgel and Viagra have teamed up on the men of this world? 

Diet Testosterone – if you look at this picture for two minutes solid – you won’t eat for a week and you will lose weight.
